TOUR ITINERARY

The Top End - by private charter, May to September 2008
Darwin, Arnhem Land, Cobourg Peninsula, with optional visit to the Tiwi Islands

DAYS 1-3: DARWIN
Highlights: City sightseeing on the open-air bus "Tour Tub"; a scenic flight across Beagle Gulf to Bathurst Island; Aboriginal art and culture of the Tiwi people; the rituals associated with Pukumani Poles; sunset drinks and dinner on East Point at one of Darwin's finest restaurants. Accommodation: Sky City Hotel on Mindil Beach (3 nights).

DAYS 4-7: KAKADU & ARNHEM LAND
Highlights: Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve on the wetlands of the Adelaide River; White Lily Billabong and Maguk (Barramundi Gorge); Nourlangie Rock, one of the oldest Aboriginal rock art and occupation sites in Kakadu; scenic floodplains alongside the spectacular Arnhem Land Escarpment to the Aboriginal community of Gunbalanya (Oenpelli); Injalak Hill rock art sites and Injalak Arts and Craft Centre; sunset billabong cruise; two days exploring remote Mt Borradaile, home to powerful Aboriginal cultural sites and rare flora/fauna; spectacular scenery and wildlife. A true wilderness expedition experience! Transport: Private GXL Land Cruiser. Accommodation: Lakeside Bush Bungalows in Jabiru (1 night); Mt Borradaile Safari Camp in Arnhem Land (3 nights).

DAYS 8-10: COBOURG PENINSULA
Highlights: Gurig Ganuk Barlu National and Marine Park; freshwater paperbark swamps and billabongs; barramundi fishing; clifftop "sundowners"; Cobourg Marine Park by boat; Port Essington to historic Victoria Settlement ruins; marine life such as dugong, dolphins, turtles, stingrays and crocodiles; guided walks from camp; Paspaley pearl farm; Port Bremmer wetlands area; untamed and close-to-extinct Banteng cattle. Transport: 4WD vehicles and boat. Accommodation: Venture North Coastal Camp - comfortable and well-appointed - on the shores of Port Essington (3 nights).

DAYS 11-12: SEVEN SPIRIT BAY
Highlights: Short boat journey to Coral Bay; wilderness lodge open to the sea breezes, sights and sounds of the tropics; wilderness activities such as guided bushwalks and fishing; the luxury of massage, spa treatments, or just poolside relaxation; a dress-up farewell dinner on the final night. Accommodation: Seven Spirit Bay Wilderness Lodge (2 nights).

DAY 13: HOME
Highlights: Private charter flight over the Arafura Sea; transfer to domestic terminal in Darwin for onward flights.
